Telehealth Services

What is Telehealth?

The pandemic moved life to a virtual format and physical therapy services are no exception.

It might seem surprising that a traditionally hands-on discipline can flex to providing great care online, but we can! Utilizing patient education, observation, instruction in exercise, and guided self-treatment, telehealth offers flexible options for treatment.

Telehealth does not have to be a primary delivery format and can be integrated into a typical in-person plan of care as appropriate.

How it works

Patients meet with their therapist online over a secure video platform instead of meeting in person. Sessions typically last between 30 and 60 minutes. You and your therapist will engage in discussion, movement observation, and education.

To participate in telehealth you need a smartphone, tablet, or computer and a reliable internet connection. You also need to be able to prop your device up and have a space available where your therapist can see you move. Your therapist will send you a link where you will conduct your session.

Insurance considerations

Currently, most insurances cover physical therapy telehealth services in order to meet the needs of patients during the pandemic. Hopefully this continues beyond the time of the pandemic as it has shown its usefulness. If you’d like to use telehealth via your insurance provider, you should check if it is a covered benefit.

Who is a good candidate?

Most people will can recieve many benefits from virtual visits because much of what a physical therapist can offer is provided through talking with and educating their patients. Based on your condition your therapist will recommend whether or not you may necessitate in-person over virtual visits.
